Term 2, Week 5 2025 - 20th May 2025
From our Principal | Mr Wes Rose

In our Prayers
Please keep Mrs Caitlin McKenzie (Year 3M teacher) and her family in your prayers. Caitlin was injured last week and remains in hospital. We continue to pray for Caitlin’s recovery and for the expert medical care she requires at this time.
School News
- This Wednesday, the Year 5 students will go on an excursion to the Sarina Sugar Shed and ‘Roaming Hens’ egg farm. I am sure the students will thoroughly enjoy learning about these local industries.
- This Friday from 1:50pm-2:30pm, all Year 3-6 students will be involved in sprint trials. At these sprint trials, students will race off against others in their age/house, which will enable us to seed the sprint races. This allows us to run division finals on the Carnival without heats on the day.
- Mrs Battaia is away Wed-Thu, attending the Diocesan Wellbeing conference in Rockhampton We look forward to her return next Friday.
- Mrs Powell (Tuckshop Convenor) is away from this Friday 23rd May until the 3rd June. Our tuckshop will be open during this time, with a limited menu. To enable our tuckshop to open during this time, we do require parent helpers. If you are able to assist, please let the office know.
Quote of the Week
"Prayer is how we press our hands into the invisible to find the hand of Christ reaching back"
- James K A Smith
Tinnies for Vinnies
We kindly ask for all families to please get involved with "Tinnies for Vinnies" by gathering canned food donations and dropping them at the school office or your child's classroom. These donations help provide nutritious meals for people experiencing food insecurity this winter. All donated food must be non-perishable, such as soups, beans, pasta sauces or canned vegetables.

National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously around the country. Tomorrow at 12:15pm, our students will stop to hear the reading of this year’s title “The Truck Cat".
The event is a highlight in our school calendar as we all stop, from prep to year 6, to hear the expressive reading of the story by our very own Ms Lenz.

St Mary's Battlers
With week one being a bye and week two washed out, the Battlers were eagerly anticipating their first match against Emmanuel. This year, the team comprises a mix of both Year 5 and Year 6 students from St Marys and St Annes, including club players and those who have never played before. Despite this, the Battlers did not disappoint and showcased exceptional skill and teamwork. However, Emmanuel proved too strong, and the Battlers went down 24-0.
The final score did not reflect the effort and determination displayed by the team. Every player should be proud of their performance in our first game. Highlights from round 3 include Ben's relentless energy and effort in tackling tough opponents, Sonny's impressive defence and attempted intercept, and Brooklyn's sideline dash, which was narrowly stopped just short of the try line.
Outstanding effort by all, and we are eagerly looking forward to next week's game. Let's continue to build on this strong start with exciting time ahead!

National Reconciliation Week 2025

The National Reconciliation Week 2025 design and artwork represent the theme, Bridging Now to Next, which reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. Bridging Now to Next urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. The beautiful artwork by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw shows that now is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together
Our school/college will mark this week with various activities throughout the week. If you want to know more or get involved in the Reconciliation Action Plan ( RAP) please email karlie_tatchell@rok.catholic.edu.au
